Derek Welch was Director of Corporate Strategy at Akzo Nobel N.V. and held various roles at Courtaulds plc including Company Secretary of a listed subsidiary and business development in emerging markets. He has over 40 years of involvement in the paints & coatings industry, over 10 years in speciality chemicals and some 5 years of pharmaceuticals. Experience includes strategy, M&A and establishing businesses in emerging markets, including China, many of which were initially joint ventures. Major projects include the refocusing of Akzo Nobel’s chemicals activities, sale of its pharmaceutical business and the acquisition of ICI plc. Formerly a non-Executive Director of GTS Chemical Holdings plc, current roles include Director of ICI Pension Trustees Ltd. Derek is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (FCIS).
